Frequently Asked

Acrylic Photo Print FAQ

Every question we get asked, answered straight. If you're not sure what size or what photo to upload, the size pages have more detail per size.

Files & photo quality

What file types do you accept?

JPEG up to 8 MB. We recommend the highest-resolution version of your photo available - typically the original from your camera roll, not a re-saved or messaging-app copy.

What resolution do I need?

Aim for at least 240 DPI at your chosen print size. The uploader checks resolution against the size you've chosen and warns you if your file is too small.

Quick reference (minimum pixel dimensions):

  • 8×10 → 1,920 × 2,400 px
  • 11×14 → 2,640 × 3,360 px
  • 16×20 → 3,840 × 4,800 px
  • 20×30 → 4,800 × 7,200 px
Will my iPhone or Pixel photo print sharp?

For any phone shot in the last 5–6 years, at full quality, yes - up to 16×20. At 20×30 and larger, low-light photos and heavily zoomed shots start to soften visibly.

What about screenshots, web-saved photos, or images sent through messaging apps?

These are usually re-compressed to lower resolution. They'll print fine at 8×10 or mini sizes but soften at anything larger. The uploader flags low-resolution files.

Can I print black and white photos?

Yes - and B&W is where acrylic shines hardest. The true blacks and gradient mid-tones reproduce with film-like depth.

Sizing & choosing

What size should I get?

Quick rules of thumb: 8×10 for desks and shelves, 11×14 for hallways and small walls, 16×20 for living rooms and bedrooms, 20×30 for statement walls. See all sizes for size-specific guidance.

What's the right size above a sofa?

Artwork should be 60–75% of the sofa's width. For a 72″ sofa, that's roughly 16×20 to 24×36 of artwork. Hang the bottom edge 6–10″ above the sofa back.

Can I order the same photo in multiple sizes?

Yes. Use "Add another size" after your first upload. Each becomes a separate item in your cart, and our multi-item shipping rates apply.

Do you make square prints?

Yes - 12×12 and 16×16. See our 12×12 square page.

The product

How thick is the acrylic?

1/4″ (6 mm) cast optical-grade acrylic. Significantly thicker than the budget acrylic used by lower-cost services - and the difference shows in how substantial the panel feels in hand.

Is acrylic the same as plexiglass?

Yes - "plexiglass" is a trade name for cast acrylic sheet. The terms are interchangeable in retail.

What's "face-mount"?

The print is bonded directly to the back of the acrylic with optically clear adhesive - no air gap, no dust ingress. It's what creates the depth and edge-lit look that makes acrylic prints look more premium than glass-in-frame prints.

Will it yellow over time?

No. Modern UV-stabilised cast acrylic does not yellow within a typical indoor lifespan. (The yellowing seen on old plastic furniture is from materials without UV inhibitors - not what's used here.)

Is it UV-protected?

Yes - the cast acrylic includes UV inhibitors that shield the pigment print behind it.

Hanging & installation

How do I hang it?

Every print ships with two standoff posts and drywall anchors. Mark two points on the wall (the included template helps), drive in the anchors, and slide the print onto the standoffs. Total install time: about 10 minutes. See how it works.

Do I need to find a stud?

No - for prints up to 20×30, the included drywall anchors are rated well above the print's weight. For larger sizes or particularly thin drywall, hitting a stud is a safe bonus.

How far off the wall does it float?

About 1″ - enough to cast a subtle shadow that gives the floating effect, not so far that the print feels detached.

Can I take it down and reuse the hardware later?

Yes. The standoffs unscrew; the drywall anchors patch with standard spackle and paint touch-up.

Shipping, returns & gifting

How long does shipping take?

Production 3–5 business days, shipping 3–7. Most orders arrive in 6–12 business days total.

Where do you ship?

Continental United States only at this time. Hawaii, Alaska, US territories, and international are not currently supported.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Email us within 7 days at commercehub_support@abcimaging.com with photos. We'll send a replacement at no charge.

Can I return a print?

Because every print is custom-made, we don't accept returns for change of mind. Defective or damaged orders are replaced free.

Can I send a print as a gift?

Yes. Prints ship in clean, gift-ready packaging. We don't currently include a gift note option in the box - if you'd like one, contact us before ordering.

Care & cleaning

How do I clean it?

Microfibre cloth, dry or barely damp. Avoid paper towel, ammonia-based glass cleaner, or any abrasive. See full care instructions.

What if it gets scratched?

Light surface scratches can sometimes be polished out with a dedicated acrylic polish. Deep scratches generally can't be repaired.

Will it fade in sunlight?

The acrylic is UV-stabilised and the inks are archival, but direct sunlight for hours every day will accelerate any print's fade over years. For longevity, hang out of direct sun.
